Stuck in the Sun, Not Much Fun
It was a particularly hot day last summer when I was travelling along a highway near Frankston Victoria, when I noticed an older woman holding a very young baby standing next to a broken down car. The car was parked in an awkward spot on a bad bend, and with the heavy traffic I could not immediately pull over, so I continued to drive until I could do a u-turn at the lights a few kilometres further on. When I finally made my way back to the stranded woman and baby, I stopped, open the door and asked the question - "Can I give you a lift somewhere?” (By this stage the woman was now red in appearance and sweating from the 38 degree day, and the baby's face was also bright red, both were also been eaten alive by mosquitos). Well before I could say another word, they both were sitting next to me. Apparently the poor new grandmother had just picked up her new 8 week old granddaughter whom she was minding her for the first time. Unfortunately Grandma (Liz) wasn’t mobile savvy, so when the car stopped, she than had to rely on the mercy of those passing by to assist. I was surprised to learn that she had already been on the side of the road for an hour before my arrival. Personally I don’t know anyone could have ignored a stranded woman with a baby especially on such as day, as it was perfect weather for heat stroke! Liz could not thank me enough for helping her out, even calling me an Angel. I just call it good old fashion common courtesy!
